Teaching a child how to bake is an important value: it not only prepares the child to be self-sufficient but provides an unparalleled bonding experience. In the digital age, it's important to provide variety to a child's schedule; and while easy to hire a television as a babysitter, we believe that kids that bake grow up to become sweeter adults. Piquing a child's interest to bake can be a difficult task. Cookies, cupcakes & muffins are all great ways to spark a love for the kitchen. Here are just a few of our favorite projects to try. 

Cake Pops

Enjoy your scrumptious cakes--without the mess. Cake pops are an easy way to soothe your sweet tooth and there's no crumby clean-up to worry about. Just take small bits of cake, mix with frosting, roll into spheres, cool and put sticks in. Afterwards, dip them in your favorite coating and decorate. Half-lollipop, half-cake: we guarantee the kids will love them.

Cupcake Sale

A bake sale or lemonade stand will ensure your child does not end up eating the entire batch of cupcakes. Check with the school's PTA and see if there are any upcoming events that you can get creative for. Cupcake sales can help teach your kids about business, raise money for the school, and are an enjoyable way to socialize & make friends. Try our candy-center cupcake game at the bake sale or one of your kid's after-school programs. Have a special prize reserved for those who find the candy-center cupcake, but be sure to have condolence prizes for the rest of the class so no one feels left out. 

Active Volcano Fondant Cake

Cupcakes are probably the best way to get your child involved in baking. A popular party game used to consist of having a toy hidden inside the cupcake: the winner is the one who gets the cake with the surprise. While this is definitely a choking hazard andnotrecommended at all, we instead suggest putting special candy or sprinkles in lieu of the toy. Another fun idea is to use corn syrup, powdered sugar and food coloring to create slime cupcakes. These cupcakes with gooey centers & slime oozing down the sides will surely be a scream at a Halloween or birthday bash. Try a mini-muffin tin for kid-sized portions.

Character Fondant Cake

For the more creative: bake your cake with a fondant of your child's favorite cartoon characters or superheroes. It may take a few tries to mold the perfect superhero or cartoon character but the resulting happiness is worth it. Fondant cakes are a good way to teach sculpture & crafting techniques to your kids.
